I'm just as happy as a king. I'm feeling good and everything. I'm just like a bird in spring, I've gotta let it out! It's my sweetie, can't you guess? I'm wild about her I confess. Does she love me? Oh my, yes! That's why I shout: Everybody loves my baby But my baby don't love nobody but me, Nobody but me! Everybody wants my baby But my baby don't want nobody but me, It's plain to see! She is my sweet patootie And I am her lovin' man. She knows how to do her duty, Loves me like nobody else can. That's why: Everybody loves my baby, But my baby don't love nobody but me, Nobody but me! Everybody loves my baby But my baby don't love nobody but me, Nobody but me! Everybody wants my baby But my baby don't want nobody but me, It's plain to see! She's got that form like Venus, Honest, I ain't talkin' Greek! No one can come between us, She's my Sheba, I'm her Sheik! That's why: Everybody loves my baby, But my baby don't love nobody but me, Nobody but me!

In the town of Louisville They got a man they call Big Bad Bill. I want to tell ya, he sure was tough, Oh brother, he could strut that stuff! He had folks scared to death; When he walked by they held their breath. He was a fighting man, sure enough. Bill took himself a wife, now he leads a different life. Big Bad Bill is Sweet William now. Married life done changed him somehow. He's the man they all used to fear, But now they're callin' him sweet papa Willie dear. Stronger than Samson I declare, 'Til the high-hat Delilah went and bobbed his hair. Big Bad Bill don't fight anymore. He's washin' dishes, and he mops up the floor. Well he used to go out drinkin', looking for a fight, Now he's got to see his mama nearly every night. Big Bad Bill is Sweet William now! Big Bad Bill is Sweet William now. Married life's done changed him somehow. He's the man they all used to fear, But now they're callin' him sweet papa Willie dear. Stronger than Samson I declare, 'Til the high-hat Delilah went and bobbed his hair. Big Bad Bill don't fight anymore. He's washin' dishes, and then he mops up the floor. He used go out drinkin' looking for a fight, Now he's got to see his pretty mama every night. Big Bad Bill is Sweet William now!

Miss Liza Johnson and her man had a falling out. He said, "Go 'an get someone else if you can. I'm gone without a doubt." Things got toug. He came back last night around nine o'clock. Well, he tried his key in the old front door but the key wouldn't fit the lock. He pushed it in, and turned it 'round, and 'round, and took it out. And just as he was 'bout to try again, he heard Miss Liza shout: "You got the right key but the wrong keyhole! I couldn't get along with you to save my soul, Yesterday I went down to the hardware store, And put another lock upon my front door. "I've got a new man who is better than you. He starts his loving where you get through. So take my tip, honey: leave my door, Because your key don't fit in my lock no more! Yeah, you got the right key but you're working on the wrong keyhole!"

'Neath your window I am waiting, Oh Mabel! Oh Mabel! Come out and meet me! Let me let you know I love you so, Mabel; So Mabel you know. Your father shows me out and throws me out, but Gee, I never let those little trifles worry me. He's up against the champion Romeo, Mabel Oh Mabel be mine! 'Neath your window I am waiting Oh Mabel! Oh Mabel! Come out and meet me. In the sleet and slush and hail and snow, Mabel, Oh Mabel I know. Your father knocks me out and locks me out, but then You'd better tell him doctor, here I am again, When he finds I'm the champion Romeo, Mabel, Oh Mabel be mine! I thought I'd find out just exactly where I stand, So I just went and asked your father for your hand, and When I did he told me where to go, Mabel. Oh Mabel, be mine!

Oh, Miss Hannah, ain't you coming out tonight? The mockingbirds are singing, and the moon is shining bright. The roses are and the lilys are swaying in the breeze. Get on your "Go-to-Sunday-meeting" clothes and come along please! Oh, Miss Hannah, ain't you coming out tonight? The mockingbirds are singing, and the moon is shining bright. The music and the moonlight, they got me in a trance. Oh lordy me now Miss Hannah, won't you come on out to the dance!

Into a cabaret One fatal day A little songbird flew. Found it so very gay He thought he'd stay Just to get a bird's-eye view. When he heard the jazz band playin' He was happy as a lark. To each measure he was swayin', And he stayed till after dark. Then back to the land he knew Thrilled through and through He sailed on in the air Called to the other birds And in these words Started gurgling then and there: I'm a little jazz bird And I'm tellin' you to be one, too. For a little jazz bird Is in heaven when he's singin' blue. I say it with regret, But you're out of date. You ain't heard nothin' yet, Till you syncopate. When the goin' is rough You will find your troubles all have flown. If you warble your stuff Like the moanin' of a saxophone. Just try my recipe And I'm sure you'll agree That a little jazz bird Is the only kind of bird to be. I say it with regret But you're out of date You ain't heard nothin' yet Till you syncopate

I’ve got a girl, a wonderful girl, She’s the sweetest one in town. You can search for miles around, But no one can be found like this one. She has a smile that will open your eyes With a certain little way. And every time that I get near her, I look at her and say: Red hot mamma, red hot mamma, You’re the one I need. Red hot mamma, you’re some charmer, Yes, indeed. I claim that you could be in the Follies. Hot tamale! You have a pair of eyes Just like old Svengali’s. I confess that you possess The sweetest charms in town. And, unless I miss my guess, The boys all follow you around. You make Joe Venuti toss way his fiddle. You make a bald-headed man part his hair in the middle. Red hot mamma, red hot mamma, Hottest gal in town.

Daddy, I want some furs and things Daddy, I want the diamond rings. Aeroplanes, motor cars and such. If your little mama ain't askin' too much From you, from you. Won't you give me what I want, daddy do? If you don't I know who will. If you don't I know who will. You may think that I'm just bluffin' But I'm one gal ain't supposed to want for nothin'. I got my wantin' habits on I've had 'em on since this morn'. Man, you've got to help me along If you don't, it's goodbye John! Squeeze me 'til I feel the thrill. Love me 'til I get my fill. 'Cause if you don't and say you won't Well, I know who will! 'Cause if you don't and say you won't I know who will, (my other papa) Yes, I know who will, (I think you know him!) I know who will!

Billy McCoy was a boy who could play, you bet! Oh, how they swayed when he played on his old cornet! He's got a smile and a cute little style that's all his own. He'd mute his old cornet, and then he'd make it moan. He took a trip on a ship to a foreign land. He got a job with a mob in a Zuzu band. Bill got a hunch and he said to the bunch, "Here's something new: Just hold your hands like this, and sing Doo wacka doo!" Doo wacka doo wacka doo wacka doo! Doo wacka doo wacka doo wacka doo! Nothing to it, but it's sweet. That tune goes right to your feet. He made a hit when he played for the girls. They got their hair bobbed and gave him the curls! Oh, how he blew that Doo wacka doo wacka doo! Doo wacka doo wacka doo wacka doo! Doo wacka doo wacka doo wacka doo! That tune went right to their feet, Made them shake their shredded wheat! He took his meals with the chief of the troupe. They took the meat and the rest got the soup. Oh, how he blew that doo wacka doo wacka doo wacka doo!

I'm so unhappy, I feel so blue, I always feel so sad. I made a mistake, Right from the start. Oh it seems to hard to part! Oh, but this letter, That I will write, I hope he will remember, When he receives it! See see Rider! Oh, see what you have done! Oh, see see Rider, Oh, see what you have done. You done made me love you, And now your baby come. If I's a catfish, Swimmin' in the deep blue sea. If I was a catfish, Swimmin' in the deep blue sea, I'd swim across the ocean, Bring my baby back to me! Well, I'm going away, baby And I won't be back 'til fall. Well, I'm going away, baby And I won't be back 'til fall. And if I find me another sweetie, I won't be back at all! Oh, see see Rider! Where'd you sleep last night? Oh, see see Rider! Where'd you sleep last night? I see you shoes, they ain't a'buttoned, Your clothes don't fit you right! I'm gon' buy me a pistol, Just as long as I'm tall. I'm gon' buy me a pistol, I'm gonna shoot you down, I'm gonna catch the cannonball. Well if you won't have me, You won't have no-one at all!

How come you do me like you do-do-do? How come you do me like you do? Why do you try to make me feel so blue? I ain’t done nothing to you! You might be the meanest man in town, But I’m just mean enough to turn your damper down. How come you do me like you do-do-do? How come you do me like you do? How come you do me like you do-do-do? How come you do me like you do? Why do you try to make me feel so blue? I ain’t done nothing to you. I'm gonna lay your head down on that railroad line, Lest a train should come along to pacify your mind. How come you do me like you do-do-do? How come you do me like you do? I've got a shovel, and and before I'm done If you haven't got a home, I'm gonna give you one! How come you do me like you do-do-do? How come you do me like you do? How come you do me like you do-do-do? How come you do me like you do? Why do you try to make me feel so blue? I ain’t done nothing to you. Ashes to ashes, and dust to dust, I bet it all on '24 and don't care if I bust, now! How come you do me like you do-do-do? How come you do me like you do? I found these skeletons, these sweet old songs; Father time just keeps on ticking, so come on and dane along with me! How come you do me like you do-do-do? How come you do me like you do?

about

Born out of pandemic lockdown madness, Jared Emerson-Johnson's One-Man Skeleton Revival began as an experiment in jug band overdubbing that blossomed into an album celebrating some of the best tunes written, recorded, and/or published in 1924. Originally intended as a personal project for friends and family, the end result came out well enough to deserve a public release...maybe.
